Mark & Lynn's Old House Pictures

Picture of North Side of house.  From the age of my grandmother sitting
in the front yard, I'd say its about 1900.  Take a look at the recent picture taken
of the house (summer 2004 below), notice the upper back window has been moved
when they installed indoor plumbing, sometime in the 1930s.  Also notice that
there is a second window today, which is the other bathroom upstairs.

This is the way it looks in 2001.  Just after stripping off the aluminum from the first, second and third floors, replacing all the trim, repairing and repainting the clapboard, and replacing the Aluminum Storms with Wooden Storm windows. A new blacktop driveway has been put in. In 1994 the village installed new sidewalks, new street lights and new roadway.  At the same time they also put in a new Sewer Line & Water Main, but of course you can't see these. The enclosed front porch has been re-opened exposing original trim and clapboard and has been painted near original colors.    I found the original ornate front screen door (which does not seem to show up in this picture) in the Garage, and have repaired and repainted it and installed it on the front door.   Notice the tree in the 1990 picture is the same as that in the1925 picture.  And its still there today, but hidden behind the flowering crab apple tree.   Both the 1925 picture and the 2001 picture were taken from just about the same place.

Summer 2004
Aluminum siding comes down on North Side of house!
Notice all the missing wood and trim... ooh nooo.
Notice all the rotted wood under the eaves!!

Scaffolding up under eaves repairing rooted wood under Yankee Gutters.

Paint gets stripped (with the help of a paint shaver www.paintshaver.com) and
repainted with one coat of oil based primer and two coats of Sherwin-Williams latex paint.
All missing wood and saw-tooth trim has been recreated or replaced or repaired.

As it turns out the paint colors we have chosen are not original.  The old B&W photos
were all we had to go by.  So could not see the colors.  Turns out the paint-shaver was able
to shave off the top layer of paint and expose the original colors.  The base color was a very dark
green color, almost black.  The trim originally was a dark yellow/mustard color. There was
no accent color back then.  I guess I'll just have to wait until the next house painting, hopefully not
for 20 years or so to put back the original colors on the house.
